Threads of time
I often encounter that when I’m productively working and check the time, only about ten minutes would’ve passed. But when I pick up my phone for what feels like just a moment, an hour seems to fly by. Time is something we always have in mind, but take it for granted, especially in this day and age. I’ve come to realize that it's inarguably the most valuable asset someone could have, given that you can’t “make” more time.
I see the limitation of time as a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can be a problem for each individual person, but on the other, the truth is that the scarcity of time is important for society as a whole. As time runs out to do something, I get pressured, which motivates me to get something done. In contrast, if an assignment had a later due date or no due date at all, I probably wouldn’t do the assignment until the last minute or wouldn’t do it at all, which is probably relatable for most people.
The dependency that our world has on time pressure is strange and isn’t talked about enough. Imagine the advancements society would’ve made if there were no deadlines or urgency—likely not much. Our efficiency is better under a time constraint than having a lot of time. Time is just a motivator that keeps me moving and growing—something that would be happening at a slower rate if time wasn’t as significant. All this is a constant reminder that I should make the most out of my limited time instead of letting it slip away.
